New Bredas Group Visiting Scientist – Kun Gao
The Bredas Research Group would like to extend a warm welcome to their new Visiting Scientist, Kun Gao. Kun is currently an Associate Professor at Shandong University in Jinan, China. In 2007, he received his Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics from Shandong University. Kun's current research focuses on the optoelectronic properties of organic semiconductors, and especially the photoexciting and charge transfer dynamics in polymers and their heterojunctions. Kun will be with us through August of 2014. Please join us in welcoming Kun to the group!

New Bredas Group Visiting Scientist – Hai Xu
The Bredas Research Group would like to extend a warm welcome to their new Visiting Scientist, Hai Xu. Hai is currently an Associate Professor at Jilin University in Changchun, China. In 2009, he received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Jilin University. Hai has more than ten years’ experience in the area of quantum computational ab-initio and density functional theory (DFT) study of electronic structure, optical properties, interactions and reactions of important organic photoelectric functional material in some oligomer/polymer molecules. Hai will be with us through September of 2014. Please join us in welcoming Hai to the group!

New Bredas Group Visiting Scientist, Osman Abdelkarim
The Bredas Research Group would like to extend a warm welcome to their new Visiting Research Scientist, Osman Abdelkarim. Osman is currently an Associate Professor at King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Spectroscopy from the University of Sussex, UK.

The Bredas Research Group would like to extend a warm welcome to their new Visiting Scientist, Pradeep Shukla. Pradeep is currently an Associate Professor at Assam University in Silchar, India. In 2008, he received his Ph.D. in Physics from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.

New Bredas Group Graduate Research Assistant, Rebecca Hill
The Bredas group would like to welcome Rebecca Hill, a graduate research assistant from the Marder lab who will be part-time in our group. Rebecca is from Vernon, Utah (population 200) and attended Utah State University where she majored in chemistry and French.

New Bredas Group Visitor, Shaaban Mohamed
The Bredas Group would like to welcome their new visitor, Shaaban Mohamed. Shaaban is from Fayoum, Egypt. He is currently an Associate Professor at King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia. Before joining KAU, he completed his PhD in physical chemistry at Beni-Suef Cairo University, and then went on to a postdoc position at Korea Institute of Science and Technology.

Smitha Janardan joining the Bredas Group as a Graduate Assistant for Summer 2013
The Bredas group would like to welcome Smitha Janardan, who will be joining as a Graduate Assistant for Summer 2013. Smitha is a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where she majored in chemistry and mathematics and achieved a certificate in computer science.

Monika Williams joining the Bredas Group as an REU Student for Summer 2013
The Bredas Group would like to welcome Monika Williams, who will be joining us through the REU program for Summer 2013. Monika is currently an undergraduate at King’s College, PA where she is majoring in Chemistry and Spanish and minoring in Math.

Andrew James to join the Bredas Group as an REU Student for Summer 2013
The Bredas Group would like to welcome Andrew James, who will be joining us through the REU program for the summer of 2013. Andrew is an undergraduate at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, and he is originally from Long Island, New York. He is a chemistry major with a minor in mathematics.

The Bredas Group would like to extend a warm welcome to their visiting scholar, Syeda Aaliya, who will be arriving on April 29th. Syeda completed her M.Sc in Organic Chemistry from the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Pakista and her M.phil from Quaid-I-Azam University Islamabad Pakistan.

Nathan Corbin to join the Bredas Group as an Intern for Summer 2013
The Bredas group would like to extend a warm welcome to Nathan Corbin, who will be joining as an Intern for Summer 2013. Nathan is currently an undergraduate at Georgia Tech majoring in chemical and biomolecular engineering with a minor in mathematics. He is interested in how the electronic and geometric structure of a molecule influences its electrical and optical properties.

Congratulations to Yuanping Yi and Lingyun Zhu on the birth of Shuyue
Congratulations to Yuanping Yi and Lingyun Zhu on the birth of their baby girl, Shuyue. Shuyue was born on March 21st at 14:57 (Beijing time). At birth, her height was 50 cm and weight was 3210 g. Mother and baby are home and doing well!
