Dr. Susan Cozzens, Vice Provost for Graduate Studies, announced that Rebecca is one of three graduate students chosen to attend the Singapore Summit in January 2015 and represent Georgia Institute of Technology!!

New Bredas Group Visiting Affliate, Brigitte Wex
The Brédas Research Group would like to extend a warm welcome to their new Visiting Scholar, Brigitte Wex!! Brigitte is currently an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the Lebanese American University in Byblos, Lebanon. After completing her BS in Biology and an MSc in Molecular Biology, Brigitte received a Ph.D. in Photochemical Sciences from Bowling Green State University and completed a Post-doc in Device Engineering at Arizona State University. Brigitte is well versed in the synthesis and characterization of polycyclic aromatic compounds for optoelectronic device applications. Please join us in welcoming Brigitte to the group!

New Bredas Group Postdoctoral Fellow, Zilong Zheng
The Bredas group would like to extend a warm welcome to their new Postdoctoral Fellow, Zilong Zheng. Zilong received his Ph.D. from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). His current academic interest is focused on understanding of charge transfer in metal complexes and organic molecular system and, he has a good experience in the area of Wave Function (WF) method, Density Functional Theory (DFT), semi-empirical (SE) method, as well as, Monte Carlo (MC) simulation study. Let's welcome him to the group!!

We are so excited to congratulate Christopher Sutton for earning his PhD! His Thesis Title was "Non-Empirical Tuning in DFT: Improvements for Modeling Charge Transport Parameters in Organic Semiconductors.Keep up the great work!

Returning Bredas Group Visiting Scientist, Osman Abdelkarim
The Bredas Research Group would like to extend a warm welcome to their returning Visiting Research Scientist, Osman Abdelkarim. Osman is currently an Associate Professor at King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Spectroscopy from the University of Sussex. In addition to computational chemistry, Osman's current research interests are adsorption in solutions, environmental studies, and molecular spectroscopy. Osman will be with us through the middle of August. Please join us in welcoming him to the group!

Congratulations to Latrisha!
Congratulations to Bredas group Faculty Support Coordinator, Latrisha Anderson, on the new addition to her family. Latrisha gave birth to Mariah Grace Anderson on Sunday, June 2, 2014 at 3:00 a.m. Congratulations to the Anderson family.

New Bredas Group Visiting Affliate, Enrico Angioni
Enrico is a PhD student at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow (UK) in Prof. Peter Skabara's research group. He obtained his MSc Chemical Sciences degreee in 2011 with research pertaining to new compounds biomimetic of [NiFe] Hydrogenases, at the University of Cagliari (Italy) in collaboration with the research group of Professor Martin Schroder (The University of Nottingham). Enrico's research is now focused in the synthesis and characterization of new organic emissive materials, in particular for solid state lightening and metal-organic framework applications. Enrico's work in the Bredas group will focus on the development of novel conjugated polymers featuring multielectrochromic properties that can find application in polymer electrochromic or electroluminescent devices.” Let's welcome him to the group!!

New Bredas Group Visiting Affliate, Mikołaj Mikołajczyk
Mikołaj is currently an Assistant in Faculty of Physical Chemistry, at Wroclaw Medical University in Poland. He received his PhD in chemistry from the Wroclaw University of Technology in 2012. His current research interests are focused on the conductive and spectroscopic properties of ambipolar polymers. He is also interested in charge carrier transport mechanism in amorphous organic materials. We are so happy to have Mikołaj in the group for his six month stay!!

New Bredas Group Visiting Research Scientist, Caijuan Xia
Caijuan Xia received her B.S. in 2003 and her Ph.D. in 2008 in Condensed Matter Physics at Shandong University, China. She is currently an associate professor at Xi’an Polytechnic University. Her research interest is theoretical condensed matter physics, mostly focused on the molecular electronics, electronic structure theory and quantum transport through nanoscale systerms.We are so happy that she will be visiting the Bredas Research Group!!

New Postdoctoral Fellow, Ravva Mahesh Kumar
Mahesh has completed his Ph.D studies in chemistry from the University of Madras in 2013. His Ph.D study was focused on probing the nature of diverse class of weak interactions that existed in molecules and materials. He joined the Bredas group in December 2013 and is working on the nonlinear optical response of cyanine-based chromophores. We are excited to have him in the group!

New Bredas Group Visiting Research Scientist, Haitao Wang
Haitao Wang received his B.S. in 2003 and his PhD in 2008 in Materials Science at Jilin University, China. He is currently an associate professor at the same university. His research interest is focused on synthesis and characterization on the functional organic materials, especially liquid crystals, organogels and light-emitting materials. Since 2010, he started to work on computational chemistry. We are so happy that he will be visiting the Bredas Research Group!!

New Postdoctoral Fellow, Minki Hong
In 2013, Minki Hong received his Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Florida. His researches were focused on defect behavior in oxide materials especially with other structural defects such as surfaces and interfaces. In Bredas Group, he will conduct excited-states calculations for the emitting layer in OLED to understand the degradation mechanism.

New Bredas Group Graduate Research Assistant, Vernon
The Bredas group would like to welcome Vernon "DJ" Crowell, a graduate research assistant. DJ is from Wynne, Arkansas. He attended Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a double major in Chemistry and Mathematics. While at Lyon College, DJ participated in undergraduate research studying the anticancer properties of ruthenium thiosemicarbazone complexes. Additionally, he modeled a potential reaction path for the synthesis of indoles from 2H-Azirines during an REU at the University of Arkansas. More recently, he has investigated the excited state dynamics of water ice as a member of the Sherrill and Orlando Groups. We are excited to have DJ in the group!!
